2015: Ofsted Report: Independent School Standards

Ofsted inspection and report: November 2015

I am delighted to say that following this inspection we have now had our report and it shows that with the exception of two relatively small matters – Rainbow met every single one of the Independent School Standards – with flying colours!!!

Some of the highlights are listed below:

Standard of Education -  All requirements Met

“The school’s bespoke scheme of work ensures all required areas are included in the school’s curriculum.”

“Pupils engage purposefully with a range of high quality, practical, age appropriate equipment and classroom resources.”

“Pupils benefit from individual learning plans that encourage personal enquiry to stretch their understanding further.”

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils   All requirements Met

“The school successfully promotes pupils’ independence, self-esteem, confidence to make decisions, and respect the beliefs and views of others.”

“Pupils spoken to……….demonstrated a high degree of care, courtesy and consideration for others.”

Welfare, health and safety of pupils - All requirements Met

Suitability of staff, supply staff and proprietor -  All requirements Met

Premises of and accommodation at schools - Two minor areas to be improved

Although the school had only one child over 11 at the beginning of the Autumn term – this triggers the need for a separate shower to be available (if needed) after P.E.We did have a shower but it was not designated for children use only.

We had a suitable first aid area and it did have a sink and there was also a toilet nearby. However, because this toilet was not designated for children use only it didn’t count as a toilet near by.

Therefore, we now meet ALL the premises standards.

Manner in which complaints are handled - All requirements Met

Quality of leadership in and management of schools - Two minor areas to be improved

(See 'Premises' above)

With the exception of the two items already stated under ‘Premises’ ALL standards concerning the quality of leadership and management of the school were met.  (This section is simply automatically not met if any single standard such as above is not met.)

Overall then, we are delighted with the report which rewards the extraordinary efforts of Miss Sylvia, our teachers and all the staff, in providing a truly special school for all our children.

As the Ofsted inspection shows, we are an exceptional school, offering a high quality and unique education to all!!
