Elementary 1 learnt all about rivers this week.
We re-created a river, using blue scarves and matched up relevant word cards to the section of river. for example: The 'source' or 'mouth'. They particularly enjoyed extending this learning outside: each child was presented with a mystery bag with an object such as a twig or pebble. Once outside they were able to monitor how it flowed down our own 'river'. To do this we used a hose at the top of the garden and let the water flow freely down the hill, using a wheelbarrow to create our own 'waterfall'!
Also this week, we observed how much the children enjoyed their playtime. One child brought in some play-doh which was very popular so we plan to introduce this more often. They also enjoyed construction work which encouraged children to share and socialise as they performed role play and fantasy play.
