Early flat worms, segmented worms and jawless fish are evolving; these are followed by ferocious armoured fish with huge teeth and strong jaws. The ocean is teeming with life but the land is empty and rocky. Life is however beginning to encroach on the wet shorelines.
Rocks covering the land have bacteria within them, softening and breaking up the hard rocks, and fungi is beginning to proliferate, all setting the stage for the next era when complex life will be inhabiting the earth!
