Potty for Pottery!
E2 have been experimenting with the form, texture and malleability of clay. The class made small bowls using the basic ball-thump-pinch technique (rolling out a ball of clay, using their thumb to smooth the inside and then pinching the clay to the desired thickness). They are currently drying on the windowsill and we will decorate them very soon! This is preparatory work for the kiln-dried clay we will use next term. An emphasis is placed on ‘feeling’ the clay and for this purpose we encourage the children to work with their eyes closed. Next term we will introduce pinch-pots, using coils and looking at various glazes.
