We had a great start to Autumn Term!
The children are starting to settle in well into the classroom, they enjoyed introducing themselves to each other during our grace and courtesy lessons. The children have also been excited to receive a task before lunch time such as setting the tables or being the ‘food server’ for the day. After only one day the children asked to have the tables united so they can all eat together at lunch time at one big table and practice together their table manners.
Other ‘grace and courtesy’ lessons that have been part of the first couple of weeks, were about the ways in which to interrupt each other, how to maintain our personal space and how to talk to each other in a polite and kind manner.
The children have started to explore the activities from the shelves during the morning work cycle and as part of the afternoon project we have been exploring topics such as the planets of our solar system and the sun. As usual art and drama activities are linked to our afternoon project topics as well as music. The song about the Solar System has become very popular and often the children enjoy singing it throughout the day.
This week we have started to look at the differences of vertebrates and invertebrates and are looking forward to explore the characteristics of different animal groups such as birds, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians in the weeks to come.
I am looking forward to a busy, exciting term!
