Throughout the week we explored the world of books! We did lots of acting; and each child took turns playing different parts in the story of “Goldilocks” and the book “Chicken Licken”! We also looked at the difference between fiction and fact and the children seemed to have understood the difference between the two! They also wore such lovely costumes and really enjoyed being characters of their favourite books!
Throughout the week we were looking at different books and stories and learning about what an author and what an illustrator is. We really liked reading the book “Monkey Puzzle” by Julia Donaldson and “I want my hat back” by Jon Klassen. The children loved acting out the stories as part of a drama session and creating their own monkeys for art work. The highlight of the week was the World Book day itself where the children came dressed up as a favourite book character and many brought in a book they really like.
For World Book Day, we discussed authors and illustrators around the World. We also discussed different endings for classics like “Jack and The Bean Stalk”, “Cinderella” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Through our grammar lessons, we also worked on speech marks, main characters, supporting characters, narrator, etc. The children enjoyed dressing up on the special World Book Day and sharing their favourite books and stories.
Primary and Preparatory:
On World Book Day Primary and Preparatory dressed up as their favourite book characters (Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, among others). To celebrate this literary day we decorated the classroom and exhibit some of the newest and classic books and the children made a lovely bookmark that included a little excerpt and a picture of their favourite book.
